Discover Regina Pizzeria & Trattoria

If you’ve ever strolled along College Street in Toronto’s Little Italy, you’ve probably caught the irresistible aroma of wood-fired pizza drifting from Regina Pizzeria & Trattoria at 782 College St, Toronto, ON M6G 1C6, Canada. I’ve visited more times than I can count-sometimes for a quick weekday slice, other times for long, laughter-filled dinners with friends-and each experience has felt consistently warm, satisfying, and authentic.

The first thing that stands out is the atmosphere. It’s cozy without feeling cramped, lively without being overwhelming. You’ll hear the low hum of conversation, the clink of glasses, and the unmistakable crackle from the pizza oven. That oven matters more than most diners realize. According to the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, authentic Neapolitan pizza is baked at extremely high temperatures, often above 430°C, for just 60-90 seconds. While Regina Pizzeria & Trattoria isn’t trying to be strictly Neapolitan, the high-heat baking method produces that beautifully blistered crust-crisp at the edges, soft and airy inside-that pizza lovers chase across the city.

On my last visit, I ordered their classic Margherita pizza alongside a seafood pasta special. The pizza arrived with vibrant tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and fragrant basil. What impressed me most was the balance. The sauce had a gentle acidity, not overly sweet, and the cheese melted evenly without drowning the base. In the food world, balance is everything. Culinary experts often talk about the harmony of fat, acid, salt, and heat; here, that principle is clearly understood and applied with care.

Their menu goes beyond pizza, of course. You’ll find traditional Italian dishes like spaghetti carbonara, lasagna, veal parmigiana, and a range of appetizers that make sharing almost mandatory. One evening, I watched a neighboring table order a spread: calamari, bruschetta, house salad, and two large pizzas. The server paced everything thoughtfully. Starters arrived quickly, mains followed at the right moment, and water glasses were refilled without anyone asking. That kind of service doesn’t happen by accident. It reflects training, attention, and a genuine respect for guests’ time.

From a quality standpoint, ingredient sourcing plays a huge role. Studies published by organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations emphasize that ingredient freshness directly impacts flavor and nutritional value. While I can’t verify every supplier Regina uses, the brightness of their tomato sauce and the texture of their vegetables suggest fresh, well-handled produce. The difference is noticeable, especially if you’ve tasted mass-produced alternatives elsewhere.

Online reviews echo this experience. Many diners highlight the generous portions, friendly staff, and reliable consistency. In the restaurant industry, consistency is often harder to achieve than excellence on a single night. Kitchens are fast-paced environments where coordination matters. Having spoken with chefs in Toronto before, I know that maintaining standards across busy dinner services requires clear systems-prep routines, temperature control, plating guidelines. Regina Pizzeria & Trattoria seems to have those processes dialed in.

Location also adds to its charm. College Street is known for its vibrant Italian heritage, and this trattoria fits seamlessly into that cultural backdrop. Whether you’re visiting from another neighborhood or exploring Toronto as a tourist, it’s easy to pair dinner here with a stroll past cafés, gelato shops, and specialty grocers nearby. It feels like a small slice of Italy woven into the city’s urban fabric.

That said, like many popular spots, it can get busy during peak hours. I’ve waited about 20 minutes on a Friday night without a reservation. If you’re planning a larger gathering, calling ahead is wise. While the space is comfortable, it’s not enormous, and that intimacy is part of its appeal.

What keeps me coming back isn’t just the pizza or pasta; it’s the sense of reliability. You know what you’re getting: hearty Italian comfort food, attentive service, and a welcoming dining room. In a city packed with trendy new openings, that kind of dependable, neighborhood-focused restaurant stands out. Regina Pizzeria & Trattoria delivers exactly what it promises-flavorful dishes, fair prices, and an experience that feels both local and timeless.

  • A great atmosphere and some of the best pizza in Toronto bar none. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, if you want some great Italian cuisine and great service this is the place. Very clean and well taken care of too. Also, try their minestrone as well as their pesto... they're among the best I've had anywhere. Even if you don't live nearby it is well worth the detour.

  • Mamma Mia! The gorgeous patio at Regina Pizzeria & Trattoria immediately sets the scene for a dreamy Italian escape right in the heart of Toronto. Sunlight, fresh air, and that irresistible aroma of baked pizza: pure bliss. The Garlic Bread was buttery and golden, perfectly crisp on the outside and pillowy inside, with just the right kick of garlic. Bruschetta was piled high with juicy tomatoes, fragrant basil, and olive oil that tasted like summer in every bite. Rigatoni Vodka? Pure comfort. Al dente pasta smothered in a creamy, tangy blush sauce that kept us twirling fork after fork. And the Margherita Pizza was simplicity at its finest: chewy crust, fresh mozzarella, bright tomato sauce, and aromatic basil — a classic that never disappoints. To top it off, the Tiramisu wass a cloud of espresso-soaked delight layered with airy mascarpone and dusted with cocoa: a sweet, dreamy finale to a perfect meal. From the warm hospitality to the generous portions and that patio view, Regina Pizzeria & Trattoria doesn’t just serve food. It serves an Italian experience you won’t forget. Warmly recommended! • Ate here for the first time —but not the last time — this past weekend. Was walking by and decided to stop in for dinner, and had an amazing experience! Jay was our waiter, and he was so friendly, helpful, and attentive from the time we arrived to the time we left! Food was delicious and great value, so kudos to those in the kitchen, and the atmosphere was very cozy. Loved it, and have already started recommending Regina’s to friends & family! Will definitely be a new regular spot to stop at. Thank you!

  • If you want authentic Italian cuisine this is the place for it. This establishment is family owned and has been operating since 1967. You always feel like family in the cozy atmosphere. I have tried only a few items but will be back to try more on the menu. Our server is the most humblest human. Service is 5 * hands down and highly recommend it.

  • All the food we tried was amazing! Best pizza, pasta, & sandwiches in Little Italy. The coffee bar was too good! They offer lattes cappucinos espresso, etc. Highly recommend if you're looking for some real authentic Italian food!

  • Had a great time at Regina Pizzeria! The place has that warm, classic Italian feel — red-and-white tablecloths, friendly staff, and a really welcoming atmosphere. The bruschetta was incredible. The bread was perfectly toasted and the toppings were super fresh with just the right amount of cheese. Honestly one of the best I’ve tried. The pizza was also amazing — crispy but soft crust, generous toppings, and the salami with olives and peppers gave it the perfect flavor. You can really taste the quality. Overall, great food, good portions, and a nice cozy spot to enjoy a meal. Definitely coming back! Highly recommend.

  • I stopped by Regina’s on a spontaneous night out, and it completely exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, lively, and effortlessly inviting. The owner personally came around, asked about our tastes, and offered a few spot-on recommendations that perfectly matched our preferences. Our food arrived impressively fast, yet everything tasted amazing. We ordered the bruschetta, antipasto della Casa, gnocchi, margherita pizza, and finished with tiramisu. Every single dish was a hit. The gnocchi was pillowy and rich, the pizza was perfectly made and the antipasto was ideal for sharing. And the tiramisu…absolutely unreal. Easily one of the best I’ve had. Regina's nails it on every level: food, service, and vibes. A 10/10 experience that I’ll be recommending and returning to later.

  • Once again I had the most authentic and beautiful experiences at one of my favourite restaurants in the city. The menu is amazing but even more amazing is the owner and his staff. They treat you like family. One of little Italy’s oldest restaurants for a reason!!
